Before I go out on location, I have to pop into the store for flame-retardant clothing, and I was glad to find out Carhartt finally had something for us ladies besides heavy-duty thick work pants, the kind my poor mother washes for my father. They had something like yoga pants, which delighted me as a woman who actually does yoga, and lo and behold, flame-retardant. I also grabbed a long-sleeve shirt in beige, also flame-retardant, because lighter colors take less sun and won't bake you in that Midland Odessa heat. As much as people say safety first, it's great to know they also practice it.

Odessa sizes up sellers the same way, on what they actually do. Before you walk into any yard below, the people inside should already have seen what you know.

Odessa's oilfield companies line I-20, Groening Street, and the county roads: pipe and supply houses, equipment makers, frac and well service yards, rental tools, compression, water, and gas treating. We list 20 of them below, each with an Odessa location sourced to a company website or SEC filing.

Oilfield Companies in Odessa, Sourced and Dated

We checked this list on October 19, 2026, and recheck it every quarter. Operators are not on it; for those, see the Midland map.

If you want every oilfield company in Odessa with a phone number, a business directory or the map pack beats this page, because we list only the companies we can source and date.

The Permian Basin International Oil Show: Next Dates

The Permian Basin International Oil Show skips 2026. It has been held every other year since the end of World War II, and the 2025 show ran October 21 to 23, 2025. The next one is October 19 to 21, 2027, at the Ector County Coliseum in Odessa, with exhibits open 10am to 6pm on October 19 and 20 and 10am to 4pm on October 21. The organizer counts about 20,000 attendees, more than 650 exhibitors, and about 1,100 booth spaces.

If you plan to work the 2027 show, start getting known well before it, so the name on your booth is one the buyers walking past have already seen. Weighing the booth spend? Read which oil and gas trade shows are worth going to and OilMoney against the trade show budget.

Living Here or Driving In

I get my best strategy ideas from talking to the people who have their hands on the thing being sold, day in and day out, whether that's water hose piping or anything else. And people drive back and forth between Midland and Odessa all the time, so whatever the hands in an Odessa yard think of you rides along to the Midland office. Write down what you learn out here, in your own words and under your own name, and it makes that drive too.

Some sellers are hired to live here. B-P Supply's September 29, 2026 posting for a business development rep, listed in Monahans, wanted the hire living in Midland, Odessa, or Monahans; we break that posting down on the supply chain buyer page.

The rest come in from Houston or farther. Federal per diem for October 2026 through September 2027 allows $136 a night for lodging and $74 a day for meals in Odessa, the same as Midland, before airfare. That comes to about $210 a day on the ground. The hotel and the meals are the easy part of the budget. The hard part is a buyer who has never heard of you.

Odessa in Numbers: Jobs and the Oil Patch

The BLS counted 84,500 nonfarm jobs in the Odessa metro in August 2026, with 19,700 of them in mining, logging, and construction, a bucket that holds more than oil and gas but still comes to nearly a quarter of the town's jobs. Unemployment was 4.0 percent.

The Dallas Fed's second-quarter 2026 report says Midland-Odessa jobs grew 3 percent from March through June. Odessa's unemployment rate rose to 4.3 percent in June from 3.8 percent in March, against 4.4 percent for Texas.

Ector County, District 8, and the Midland Office

Ector County sits in Railroad Commission District 8, which covers 20 counties, including Andrews, Crane, Martin, Midland, Loving, Reeves, Ward, and Winkler. The District 8 office is in Midland, at 10 Desta Dr, Suite 500 E (432-684-5581).

District 8 drew 323 of the state's 759 permits to drill new oil or gas holes in September 2026, the most of any district. That count covers the whole district, with Ector County as one piece of it, so read it as a signal for the ground your Odessa customers work.

Field Guides for Selling Into Odessa

By role, start with the hubs for rental tool and fishing reps or service company owners. If you manage the reps instead of carrying the bag, the page for sales managers and directors is yours. For the buyer on location, read selling to the oilfield company man, and for basin-wide numbers, see the Permian Basin hub.

His Best Post, and a Quieter One

A fourth-generation Permian service-company founder who hated marketing. His board nearly killed the project over ROI. We spent June to October 2025 building his name, then started posting for him, in his voice, with his yes on every post.

His best single post reached 58,666 impressions. A quieter one, on layoffs and what they do to safety, reached roughly 5,000 in an industry that doesn't clap.

From Sep 15, 2025 to Oct 19, 2026: 270,955 impressions, 104,386 people reached, and followers up from 1,974 to 4,232, with 61% of them working in oil and gas. LinkedIn's Social Selling Index ranks him in the top 1% of sales professionals in oil and gas.
