OilMoney vs a Full-Service Marketing Agency: What an Owner Gets for the Money
By Amanda Leon, founder of OilMoney.io. Houston-raised, came up in the Houston marketing team of Vallourec, and has run Unrth, a brand and growth studio for oil and gas and industrial companies, since 2017, with her boots on client locations in Midland and Odessa. Last reviewed October 20, 2026.
As Head of Marketing at Wetzel's Pretzels, I managed more than eight outside agencies. One was building an app. One had the website, one the brand, one the graphic design, and one the print design for the caps and aprons. That job taught me exactly how marketers waste a business's money. A full-service agency puts all of that work on one invoice, so the first thing to ask is what's inside the number.
Clutch's 2026 pricing guide puts digital marketing agencies at $5,000 to $50,000 a month. If your company needs the website, search rankings, paid ads, and campaigns all at once, hire the agency, because OilMoney does none of that work. We build the owner's own name on LinkedIn, in his voice, with his yes on every post, for the buyers who should know that name when the rig count rises and when it falls.
What a Digital Marketing Agency Costs in 2026
The closest published pricing for a full-service shop is Clutch's 2026 digital marketing agency pricing guide, dated September 21, 2026. It gives two numbers that measure different things:
- Agency pricing: $5,000 to $50,000 a month.
- Where most reviewed projects landed: between $10,000 and $49,999, a project figure, not a monthly fee.
When a proposal hits your desk, ask how long you're signing up for. And when five jobs share one invoice, ask to see each one spelled out, with what it costs and what it's supposed to bring back.
What The Rig-Up and The Rotation Cost
OilMoney's pricing comes in a fixed order. First comes The Rig-Up, $8,500 one time for one seat: four to six weeks to set your positioning, write your voice guide, rebuild your LinkedIn profile, and build one signature offer. Then The Rotation, $2,450 a month with a six-month minimum: posts in your voice, three to five a week, each one approved by you before it goes out. Nobody buys The Rotation alone.
For one seat, the minimum first commitment is $23,200: The Rig-Up plus six months of The Rotation. Don't read it as a yearly price. Both run on The Warm Walk-In™, which needs one story dump a quarter from you and your approval on each post.
What OilMoney Leaves Out
A fair comparison says what's missing. OilMoney builds no websites, does no search work, buys no ads, and runs no company pages. We work on people's names, one seat at a time. Company marketing goes to the agency you hire, or to Unrth, OilMoney's sister shop. The work we do for owners is laid out on our page for service company owners.
Where the Full-Service Agency Wins
An agency wins when the sale runs through a crowd. Forrester's 2025 Buyers' Journey Survey found an average of 13 people inside the buyer's organization and nine from outside involved in a B2B purchase decision. They don't always agree, either: LinkedIn, citing a May 2025 Gartner sales survey, says nearly three in four B2B buying groups report unhealthy conflict before reaching a decision.
Company-wide marketing reaches that whole group, which one owner's profile cannot. If your deals run through that many people, and the company itself has to look the part to every one of them, the agency's reach is worth paying for. For the company side of the job, see marketing an oil and gas company.
Spending Through the Cycle
Any marketing money you commit has to make sense on both sides of the cycle. Baker Hughes figures put the Permian rig count at 304 at the start of 2025 and 247 on December 30, 2025, an 18.75 percent drop, and Baker Hughes counted 272 Permian rigs for the week ending October 16, 2026.
For a service company, price is the other half. In the Dallas Fed's third-quarter 2026 survey, with 42 oilfield services firms responding, the index for prices received fell to 16.3 from 24.5, while the input cost index stayed high at 60.4. One services firm said, "We continue to see pricing pressure from operators." In a quarter like that, every line item deserves a hard look, marketing included: what you pay each month, and what you'd still have if you stopped. If you'll be the one explaining the marketing line, see explaining the marketing line to the CFO.
When One Customer Is Most of the Business
Not every hit comes from the rig count. Texas oilfield services company Nitro Fluids filed for bankruptcy in May 2024, blaming operator consolidation after Permian Resources acquired its customer, Earthstone Energy. In a Reuters analysis published by Pipeline and Gas Journal, Nitro's average monthly revenue fell from $1.2 million in 2023 to under $100,000 by March 2024.
When a big customer gets bought, the people you sold to may not be the people who decide anymore. A known name doesn't promise you keep the work. Without one, though, you walk into the acquiring company's office as a stranger. We go deeper on that in what happens to your MSA when your customer gets acquired.
What Keeps Billing, and What You Keep, When the Rig Count Drops
- A digital marketing agency: $5,000 to $50,000 a month, per Clutch's 2026 guide, on whatever terms your contract sets.
- OilMoney: The Rig-Up is a one-time fee of $8,500. The Rotation is a monthly fee of $2,450 with a six-month minimum. For one seat, that's a minimum first commitment of $23,200.
Then ask what you keep. With OilMoney, you own what we build with you: your profile, your posts, your voice guide, and your own lived experience, and you approve every post on your own profile before it goes out. Ask any agency the same thing, in writing, before you sign: who owns the website, the ad accounts, the content, and the logins if you stop paying? Get that answer while the work is steady, before the rig count makes you ask.
Allergic to Fake Branding
The founder in our proof story comes from four generations of oilfield men, started his own Permian service company, and is allergic to fake branding, so what we built was his own name, in his voice, with his yes on every post. From Sep 15, 2025 to Oct 19, 2026, his posts earned 270,955 impressions and reached 104,386 people, on a profile that stays his. Read the full story.
When to Hire the Agency Instead
If the company needs a website, search rankings, paid ads, and campaigns all at once, a full-service agency does that work and OilMoney does none of it. Hire the agency. It's also the better buy when:
- Your deals run through a big buying group, and the company needs to show up for all of them, including people who have never met you.
- You're launching something (a new yard, a new service line) and it has to show up everywhere at the same time.
- Nobody at the company wants their own name out front.
Nothing stops you from doing both: an agency for the company and OilMoney for the name on the door. To compare other places the same dollars could go, see what a marketing hire costs in Houston and Midland, OilMoney vs the trade show budget, and how an oil and gas marketing agency compares.
